The Cooks
Question:
Kaiah and Carinne are going to attend Ceres Center, a learning farm set up to Heifer International. Heifer is a non-profit that is known for trying to end hunger by providing livestock (hence the name). They train the recipients how to become self-sustaining using the livestock (milk, breeding, etc.).
Heifer's website is here. More info is here. Would anyone be interested in foregoing family gifts this year and giving instead to Heifer or some other worthy charity/project?
Our thought is that while individually our gifts may be small, together they could make a difference. A heifer, for example, is $500. Post our thoughts here? What does everyone think?

Hmmm, this would certainly make my Christmas shopping easy if Grandpa and I invested in heifers for all our grandkids! Is that what you're thinking? Or are you talking about the exchange between families and that amout going to a heifer? I guess there's several ways of thinking on this, huh? I remember reading about this program, have even received a pamphlet on it and obviously, it's a very good thing for those in need. In Dad's MIT mag there's an article about an MIT grad recognized because of micro loans. An Indian woman took a $90 loan to buy chickens and it opened the world to her and is now supporting her family beyond chickens. Certainly contributing to a worthy program wouldn't hurt any of us. Perhaps we could set a goal of buying one cow this year and see how we feel about it? I'll be interested in everyone's response.
